 1. Sabarmati Ashram

When you think about Ahmedabad, the first thing to come to mind is the famous Sabarmati Ashram, It is situated on the banks of the Sabarmati River and had served as the operational headquarters during the fight for independence.

Sabarmati Ashram, the home of Mahatma Gandhi, provides visitors with an insight into his life. Most of his belongings, such as his spectacles, slippers, and novels, are still kept there. There is also an art gallery as well as a library with about 35,000 books in English, Hindi, and Gujarati. The literature, artwork, and artefacts make it a top tourist attraction in Ahmedabad. The place is also famous for being the beginning place of the iconic Dandi March, a pivotal moment in India's fight for freedom.

2. Statue of Unity

The newly established Statue of Unity, also referred to as the Tall Statue in the World, is a tribute to the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The statue was created to spread Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's ideology on India and inspire Indian citizens and tourists via his nationalism and freedom struggle.

The sculpture is made of bronze and stands tall, measuring 182 metres, located on the River Island of Sadhu Bet, overlooking the Narmada Dam, on the banks of the Narmada River. The Statue of Unity has become a global sensation for becoming the tallest man-made statue globally and is also a prominent place to visit in Ahmedabad.

3. Akshardham Temple

The Akshardham temple is a work of art in terms of combining the current style with the essence of Hindu mythology. Nearly two million devotees from Gujarat visit this temple to pay their respects to Lord Swaminarayan every year. Book flight now

The temple's structure is made in the centre of a 23-acre lawn which was created using 6,000 tonnes of pink sandstone (no steel). Inside the temple, a 1.2-tonne gold-plated image of Lord Swaminarayan sits with his right hand outstretched in the abhaymudra. This temple also hosts a light and music show called Sat Chit Anand Water Show, as well as audio-animatronics shows and showcases a movie ‘The Mystic India’, based on the journey of a yogi named Neelkanth.

4. Auto World Vintage Car Museum

The Auto World Historic Car Museum, located in Kathwad's Dastan, is a museum of over 120 vintage cars, including old work trucks, motor vehicles, and ancient carriages. The Vintage & Classic Car Club of India organises and maintains this museum.

The Auto World Vintage Car Museum was founded by Shri Pranlal Bhogilal Patel, who converted his personal collection of automobiles into a recognised museum. The museum also exhibits a collection of royal cars and carriages dating from 1900 to the 1970s.

The majority of them belong to some of the country's most significant Kings or Maharajas, as well as some notable colonisers. The 1949 Rolls Royce, 1906 Minerva, 1927 Phantom I, and 1923 Silver Ghost, as well as the renowned French Hotchkiss automobiles, are among the trademark exhibits. The oldest vintage here is a Fiat vehicle from 1903.

5. Law Garden Night Market

The Law Garden Night Market, located in Maharaja Society's Law Garden, is a popular night market in Ahmedabad. Traditional apparel, wall art, bandhej sarees, long colourful skirts, antique jewellery, classic footwear, and home decor items are among the best buys at this market, which houses an assortment of traditional stalls from Kutch and Saurashtra.

Snacks trucks selling delicious local specialities and street food fill the night market. It is the best place to visit in Ahmedabad with friends and family, especially during the time of Navratri.

6. Bhadra Fort

The Bhadra fort is located in the walled city of Ahemdabad, featuring beautiful sculptures, latticework, artwork, faultless arches and calligraphy at the entrance. The walling was built in 1411 by Ahmed Shah I to safeguard the Gujarat Sultanate, which was ruled by Ahmed Shah I at the time.

The Bhadra Fort, also called the Arak Fort, is claimed to have gotten its name from the Bhadrakali temple built here by the Marathas. It is also an important venue for hosting events such as the country's Republic Day and Independence Day.

7. Jhulta Minar

The Jhulta Minar is indeed one of the world's most striking architectural wonders and remains an unsolved puzzle, which is that, if one of the minar is shaken, the other one shakes after a few seconds, however the connecting corridor does not transfer any motions or vibrations! These oscillations inspired the name Jhulta Minar, which translates to swinging minaret.

Several architects and historians have attempted to comprehend the physics and logic of the diverse movements of the minarets. Now, it has become a famous tourist attraction in Ahmedabad, and tourists come from all around the world to witness the minar, which has challenged the methodology of motion. The fascination with the oscillation of these minarets is not new, as, during the British rule in India, various English men tried to figure out the reason behind the movement of the minaret. In fact one of the Englishmen almost had the minarets demolished to figure out why they move the way they do! Woah!

8. Adalaj Step Well

Adalaj Stepwell is a unique historical site and one of Ahemdabad’s most famous places to visit. This was brilliantly designed to alleviate the water shortage across Adalaj Village. The stepwell is located around 3 to 4 kilometres southwest of Gandhinagar, the capital of Gujarat. The Adalaj Stepwell, constructed in 1498, is one of the numerous step wells constructed in India to allow access to groundwater.

The entire structure is an excellent example of the intelligence of India's engineers and architects. The unique feature of the step well is its ceiling which includes an entrance which enables light and air inside the octagonal structure of the well. However, the design prevents direct sunlight from reaching the steps or landings. This permits the temperature within the well to be approximately six degrees lower than the temperature outside. Another notable aspect of the Adalaj step well is that it is the only one in Gujarat with three entrance stairs. These stairs come together on the first floor, which features an octagonal aperture at the top.

9. Nalsarovar Bird Sanctuary

The bird sanctuary, perhaps one of the biggest in the country, spans about 115 square kilometres and is home to a variety of exotic aviary species. The presence of Nal Lake and marshy territory in the vicinity attracts over 200 species of waterfowl, including geese, pelicans, flamingos, cranes, spoonbills, storks, and ibis. During the winter, migratory birds such as the bluish-grey demoiselle crane from Siberia can be plainly spotted here.

10. Kite Museum

Bhanubhai Shah conceptualised and developed the Kite Museum, located on the premises of Sanskar Kendra in Paldi, Ahmedabad. The museum, designed by renowned architect Le Corbusier in 1954, is an intricate display of over 125 differently carved kites, featuring mirror embroidered kites, block print kites and Japanese kites such as Rokuku.

Apart from statues of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Rao Bahadur Runchorelal Chotalall, this historical reserve of the kite flying tradition houses artefacts dating back to 200 and 1200 BC. This nostalgic moment is followed by the sight of kites constructed of a variety of materials, including paper, cotton, bamboo, and even nylon.

Kai Po Che truly!
