Akasa Air becomes fastest Indian airline to serve 25 million passengers in 3.5 years of operations
Achieves milestone while maintaining strong operational reliability
National, 25 March 2026: Akasa Air has crossed a significant milestone of serving over 25 million passengers in just over 42 months (3.5 years) of commencing operations, becoming the fastest Indian airline to achieve this feat. This achievement underscores the airline’s strong growth trajectory and its emergence as a trusted and dependable carrier in India’s evolving aviation landscape.
Since its inaugural flight in August 2022, Akasa Air has consistently recorded among the highest average Passenger Load Factors (PLF) in the industry - a key metric that indicates the percentage of available seats filled by passengers, reflecting demand strength, network efficiency and growing customer preference for the Akasa experience. This sustained performance reflects a disciplined growth strategy anchored in operational reliability, service excellence, and a long-term approach to building scale.
Commenting on the milestone, Vinay Dube, Founder and CEO, Akasa Air, said “Crossing the 25-million passenger mark in 3.5 years is both humbling and heartening. What makes this milestone truly meaningful is that we have achieved it while maintaining a sharp focus on reliability and customer experience. It reflects the trust our customers place in us and the unwavering commitment of over 5,000 Akasians who bring our purpose to life every day. From the outset, our ambition has been to build an airline that grows responsibly, with strong fundamentals and a service philosophy that keeps flying accessible for more Indians. As we look ahead, we are firmly focused on building one of the top 30 airlines in the world by the turn of the decade, with a resilient, future-ready organisation that contributes meaningfully to India’s aviation growth story.”
Akasa Air has expanded its fleet to 35 aircraft, including five aircraft configured to its specifications and equipped with Safran Z200 seats, a next-generation seating solution designed to enhance onboard comfort. These seats feature a 4-inch recline, ergonomically contoured backrests, improved cushioning, and integrated USB-C and USB-A ports, catering to the needs of modern travellers.
The airline’s customer-centric initiatives continue to resonate strongly with passengers. Its pet travel service, Pets on Akasa, has enabled over 10,000 pets to travel safely and comfortably since its launch in November 2022. Meanwhile, Café Akasa, the airline’s onboard meal service, has served more than 6.5 million meals, reflecting a consistent focus on thoughtful service and inclusivity.
Akasa Air’s growth is supported by a strong and future-oriented fleet strategy. The airline has placed a firm order for 226 Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, with 191 additional aircraft scheduled for delivery over the next six years, reinforcing its commitment to meeting India’s rapidly expanding air travel demand.
With a clear strategic vision, disciplined execution, and an unwavering focus on service excellence, Akasa Air continues to build a robust and sustainable foundation for long-term growth.
